Sarah Cycles for Children
The members of the Rotary Club of Seaford and their wives enjoyed an evening meeting with after dinner Guest Speaker Sarah Joualt.
Sarah Joualt is no ordinary lady. Since becoming a widow eleven years ago Sarah, egged on by her children, decided she could not just sit back and needed something to engage her time other than pursuing her Hair and Beauty Therapist business in Felpham, Bognor Regis.
A friend suggested jogging, which turned out to be the first steps on a long crusade in raising money for children's charities. In 1998 she ran her first Dublin Marathon at the age of 44 Years and since then has competed all over the world in Marathons (London - 7th. in age group), Iron Man competitions, culminating in representing GB in Triathlons, including the World Championships in Hawaii.
Over the past ten years Sarah has raised over ?64,000 for various charities, partly from sponsorship and partly from selling home made produce at garden parties at home.
In October Sarah set about her latest project and joined up with Rotary International District 1250 for a sponsored cycle ride around the District.
During 3 days Sarah visited 35 towns in Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire and in the process met representatives from all 58 clubs in the District.
She spent 24hours in the saddle and covered a total of 280 miles and at the time of going to press, in excess of ?6,000 has been raised in sponsorship which will be divided between Chase Hospice Care for Children, Chestnut Tree Hospice for Children, Lodge Hill Centre Pulborough and St. Michael's School, Kilolo, Tanzania.
This brings the total raised by Sarah to ?70,000.
