President's trip to India
For several days in November the President of the Rotary Club of Seaford, John Owen, along with 80 Rotarians, partners and friends from the UK will travel to India, at their own expense, to administer the oral polio vaccine to the children of New Delhi and surrounding districts.
Rotary International works with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the World Health Organisation and the United Nations Children?s Fund towards ending this disease. In 1985 Rotary International started its Polio Plus programme since when more than 2 billion children have been given the oral polio vaccine.
John said ?eradicating polio has become one of the main challenges for Rotary members throughout the world. We have been successful in eradicating the disease in all but four countries ? Afghanistan, India, Pakistan and Nigeria ? in the last 25 years?
John said ?as a Rotarian I have a desire to serve. Hope is what we give people through our Rotary service and I am proud to be playing a small part in saving lives and bringing about the eradication of polio?
