Chestnut Tree House

The Presidents and members of Seaford's two Rotary Clubs were among the hundreds of visitors who recently attended the Annual Open Day and Family Fun Day at the Chestnut Tree House children's hospice.
This event was part of the national Children's Hospice Week celebrations and raised over ?5,000 for this very worthwhile Charity

Chestnut Tree House is the only children's hospice in Sussex and cares for children and young adults from 0-19 years of age with progressive life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses from all over the county.

There are potentially 400 families with life-limited children in Sussex. Chestnut Tree House offers support for the whole family including psychological support, care in bereavement therapy, end of life and respite care and sibling support.

The hospice costs approximately ?2 million per year to run. Families are not charged for their care and the hospice receives very little government funding so it relies almost entirely on the generosity, help and support of the people of Sussex.

During the afternoon the Rotary Presidents were pleased to present a cheque for ?1,330 being one half of the proceeds of "It's A Knockout" which the two clubs organised as part of the Seaford Fun Day which took place earlier this year.

For more information on the work of Chestnut Tree House visit their website at www.chestnut-tree-house.org.uk

A similar sum has been allocated to Rotary International's "Thanks for Life" campaign towards the fight to rid the world of polio. More details of this project can be found on the RIBI website at www.ribi.org/thanks-for-life

The Rotary Club of Seaford has also been busy over the past three months supporting Macmillan Nurses, The Exchange Project (New Garden at the Crouch Gardens), Seaford Head Community College and St. John Ambulance.
