"It's A Knockout" for Children's Hospice
A beautiful sunny day ensured that large crowds flocked to the Downs to enjoy and participate in Seaford Fun Day. The event, organised by Seaford Town Council, Wave Leisure and supported by the Town's two Rotary Clubs was opened by Seaford's Mayor Councillor Tracey Willis.
A 6-a side football tournament, dancing and gymnastic displays, a funfair with big wheel, fire engines and side stalls ensured that there was plenty for all the family to enjoy.
The main arena event was Graham Fisher's International It's A Knockout which was organised by the two Seaford Rotary Clubs.
Thirteen teams took part in a replica of the once popular TV show featuring Stuart Hall, Arthur Ellis and Eddie Waring.
The first set of games was won by a Team representing Fox & Son with Pet Doctors winning the second section. Points were awarded for performance, style and determination with Pet Doctors being adjudged the overall winners.
Grant Divall from the victorious team commented: ?The Pet Doctors team had a blast at the event. It was a great day and we were delighted to win ? even if the stiffness in our muscles has been causing us to move rather delicately round the surgery this week! We were also delighted to help raise funds for two such important local charities."
"The Rotary Clubs would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Teams for taking part as well as their sponsors. A big thank you is also due to local businesses who took advertising space in the Lucky number programme. Early indications are that a sum of approximately ?2,500 has been raised for the two nominated Charities, Chestnut Tree House (Sussex based Children's Hospice) and Rotary's Global Polio Eradication Campaign.
Many of the teams taking part were also raising sponsorship funds for their own nominated charities and we anticipate that overall the total raised by the event will be between ?4,000 and ?5,000.
The exact amount will not be known until all the sponsorship money has been collected."
The profits from the day's event were supplemented by monies raised by Seaford's Mayor Tracey Willis who performed a solo run over one of the obstacle courses.
Rotary would also wish to apologise to Seaford Head Community College and Brian Huntly for typographical errors in their advertisements. The original material provided was correct but key typing errors were not picked out during proof reading.
The emphasis of the day was FUN and all those taking part, as well as the crowd, certainly had their fair share of fun and sun as well as soap and water.
The Lucky winning programme number is 2646 and the holder of this programme should contact Geoff on 01323 896257 to claim the ?100.00 cash prize.
