Support for Scouts for World Jamboree

We received a request for financial assistance for three Seaford Scouts who have been selected to go to the 24th World Scout Jamboree to be held 22nd July – 2nd August in West Virginia, USA. As well as attending the Jamboree at the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve, near Beckley in Raleigh County, the Scouts will visit other places in the USA and will also travel to Canada where they will be hosted by the families of Canadian Scouts.
This will be a life changing experience for these Scouts. At the Jamboree they will be meeting with about 45,000 young people from all over the world, sharing our culture and learning about the lives and cultures of others. They will also be learning about themselves and discovering how to fulfil their own potential. Attending a World Jamboree is considered to be the pinnacle of a Scouting career.
In order to raise funds for their trip the three Scouts have been bag packing at Sainsbury’s and Morrisons, they have a duck race planned and many other individual projects on the go in addition to the Car Boots, Quizzes and others already completed.
On Wednesday 30th January President Steven Willox and Youth Services committee Chair Paul Vaesen attended their weekly Scout meeting and presented the Scouts with a cheque to help them with the cost of their visit to North America.
We wish them well and we look forward to hearing about their experiences after they return.
