Rotary Seaford Cricket Club Young Player of the Year

With the unavailability of the President, two Vice-Presidents, and the Chairman of the Youth Services Committee, it fell to the Committee’s Deputy Chairman, Jim Anderson, and Tony Osborne, the Club’s regular contact with the Seaford Cricket Club, to attend the Cricket Club’s Annual Awards Evening to present an award on behalf of Seaford Rotary Club.
This was a new award which the Youth Services Committee has agreed to sponsor for three years for the junior member, who is not only a valued team member in his own age group, but also makes a significant contribution to the Club by readily volunteering when there are other jobs to be done. The award provides the winner with an engraved shield, £100 towards kit and free subscription for the following year.
Our award was one of many to be presented during an evening well attended by players, parents of junior members, and friends of the Club. The evening commenced with reports by all the junior team managers who selected for special mention their best batsman, bowler, and fielder who each received a personal memento. We were on next but there was a slight hiccup.
Our winner had been told he would be receiving an award but not what it was for, and he had already been singled out during the presentations to his own age group. Not knowing there was something more to come he had then gone home, but the Club managed to recover him quite quickly and Jim Anderson was able to explain to all present a little about what our Club had done to support the Cricket Club in the recent past, and a bit more about what we were doing in the town more generally.
He then duly presented the award for the Seaford Cricket Club Young Player of the Year to Cosmo Martin.
