September Boot, Craft and Produce Fair

We wonder how long our luck with the weather will hold. After 5 boot fairs this summer with blue skies, our luck held, and the morning of the sixth fair on Sunday 2nd September dawned dry and sunny for the penultimate Rotary Boot, Craft and Produce Fair of 2018 that was held on Martello Fields.
Although September is the first month of the meteorological autumn, the summer still was with us and the air was warm and inviting, but not oppressively hot as for some boot fairs earlier this year.
Consequently, the number of stalls was greater than the August fair, and we were pleasantly surprised that the Martello Field was filled by stalls, so much so that as for the June fair, it was necessary to start a third but unplanned row of stalls and allow some stalls around the perimeter at the end furthest from the entrance from the field. After the June Fair Tony Henley from the Fundraising committee said that he will never see another 96 stalls, and he was right because at the September there was not 96 but a new record of 100 stalls, exceeding the record highest number of stalls at a Seaford Rotary Club Boot, Craft and Produce Fair set at the June fair.
The stall holders all appeared to be doing good business with many customers searching for bargains.
Goods for sale included traditional wares such as clothes, children’s toys, books, DVDs, jigsaws, antiques and collectables, costume jewellery, pictures, glassware and crockery as well as some more quirky or large items including an ironing board, a lawn mower, furniture, a standard lamp, fishing rods, a dustbin and a Christmas tree although this was not the first to be on sale this summer. Driftwood art reappeared after being absent last month and concrete garden toadstools and tortoises were also for sale.
All the money raised by Seaford Rotary will be put to good use for charitable causes.
Our gratitude goes to all those who attended, whether stall holders or members of the public, you all helped to make this fair such a magnificent success.
