July Boot, Craft and Produce Fair

THE weather was hot and dry on Sunday 1st July for the Rotary Boot, Craft and Produce Fair held on the Martello Fields. After the record-breaking fair in June, it was not expected that this fair would achieve the same standard. Although the number of stalls (sixty-eight) was the lowest this year, nevertheless the number of stall holders was still greater than the most successful fair in 2017.
Why such a fall in the number of stalls? Quite possibly the hot weather may have proved a deterrent and the nearby sea more attractive. Were many potential stallholders on holiday? The same observation applies to public footfall which appeared to be down. Several the stallholders remarked that the sun was making it uncomfortable - we can't win!
The sales at the Rotary stall at £70 were the lowest, apart from October 2017, for the last 2 years, possibly because all the good quality items - especially large items have been sold in previous fairs.
If anyone has any items that they wish to donate for sale at the Rotary stall, can they please advise Tony Henley.
This fair was notable for the number of stalls, in addition to the Rotary stall, manned to raise money for charities or organisations with charitable intent.
These included:
• Seaford Head student’s council
• Brighton kite flyers
• Warwick House Bay Service – raising money for the comfort fund for entertainers and days out
• Brian Vernon Fund
• Children with muscular dystrophy
• Phab kids
One stall holder took account of the hot weather and showed entrepreneurial skills by selling a selection of sunglasses.
There appeared to be more stalls selling antiques than previous months. Other goods for sale included traditional clothes, toys, DVDs and costumer jewellery. Strangely there were two stalls selling driftwood art when there had been none in the previous fairs this year.
All the money raised by Seaford Rotary will be put to good use for charitable causes.
An immense gratitude goes to all those who attended, whether stall holders or members of the public, you all helped to make this fair such a magnificent success.
