Newhaven Lifeboat Donation

BLUE skies and a crowd of spectators greeted the Newhaven lifeboat at Seaford beach on the RNLI’s Helicopter and Lifeboat Demonstration Day.
The spectators were treated to a display showing the manoeuvrability of the lifeboat, rescues of a swimmer (a member of the lifeboat crew) using various methods and flypasts by the coastguard helicopter above the speeding lifeboat before the helicopter had to leave the demonstration for a real live rescue east of Seaford.
After the helicopter had left, Seaford Rotary President Steven Willox along with Rotarian Barry Wells presented Peter Mercer, vice Chair Newhaven and District Lifeboat Society and organising committee member Derek Payne with a cheque for £500.
Derek Payne said ‘We are very grateful, it is particularly nice when a donation is from a local organisation’.
