President's annual Seaford Rotary award

Each year the President of Seaford Rotary Club chooses a charity that he favours to present the annual £1000 Seaford Rotary award which may be used for both local and national causes.
This year President Mike Roper broke with tradition and selected two charities, each of which were presented with a cheque for £500. The Charities selected were SASBAH, the Sussex Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus and Now Charity. Both charities had visited the Club in the Presidential year and had given a talk on their work.
SASBAH provide a service to meet a growing demand for those with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus. SASBAH operate two centres that offer training and voluntary work experience to support and assist those in Sussex with physical and/or learning disabilities, under a social enterprise scheme they call Saspire. For more information see their website
Mike Roper had the privilege of visiting the Saspire premises in Gun Hill, Horam on Monday 11th June to present them with a cheque for £500 as one of the two nominated President’s charities.
The friendly team of volunteers were delighted to see him, and he was intrigued to see a group of hard working people making up wallpaper samples.
The Now! Charity Group focus on helping East Sussex residents facing any disadvantage such as poverty, lack of qualifications or health issues. There are two main parts to the charity, Furniture Now! And Training Now! Both are designed to help members of our local community get back on their feet, feel happy and return to work. For more information see their website
On Thursday 21st June, Mike Roper met with Kevin Bottrell at their Eastbourne premises to present him with a cheque for £500 as the second of my two nominated President’s charities.
Kevin gave him an excellent tour of the premises where they carry out some of the training and showed me their warehouse facilities.
