Young Photographers 2018

THIS year a record number of entries across the age ranges were received for the Young Photographer of the Year 2018, and so on 15th February Paul Vaesen, Jim Anderson and Tony Osborne from the Seaford Rotary Youth Services Committee met with Barry Trigwell of Fotobox to carry out the difficult job of judging the entries. The subject for the competition was ‘A Different Perspective’.
First prize in the 7 - 10 age group was won by Daisy Jenner from Chyngton School, our first winner from this school, and on 19th March President Mike Roper presented her with her prize and a winner’s certificate by at a school assembly.
The winner in the 11 -13 age group was Grace Russell who lives in Seaford but attends Moira House School in Eastbourne. Again, this was the first time that there has been a winner from that school. President Mike presented her with her prize and the winner’s certificate at a school assembly at which Grace’s photo of grass, which the judges commented on as outstanding, was projected onto a screen for all to view.
Amber Robinson from Seaford Head School, who had already won the Young Artist competition, was awarded second prize.
The most entries were received in the age category 14 - 17 with the majority including the winner and two runners up coming from Northease Manor School. President Mike Roper attended a school assembly on Friday 27th April to present the prizes to the winners.
Certificates of acknowledgement were presented by President Mike Roper to pupils from the school who took part in the competition in alphabetical order but were not successful in winning a prize. Paul Vaesen, Chair of Seaford Rotary Youth Services Committee congratulated all entrants from the School, who the judges considered had tackled the subject admirably.
Then in reverse order, the third prize and a certificate were presented to George Seebacher. Second prize with his certificate went to Jude Allison. First prize plus the winner’s certificate for his photograph of a stack of used tyres was presented to Freddie Medhurst.
Our thanks go to Barry Trigwell and Fotobox for their continued excellent support for our Young Photographer of the Year competition.
