Seaford A v Seaford B skittles match

AFTER many years of one team losing before the round that two Seaford teams would have met, this year Seaford A and Seaford B teams were drawn to play each other if they progressed to round 3 of the District skittles competition. Memories and some are long could not recall if such an occasion had occurred before, but as both teams won their round 2 matches, on Thursday 22nd both Seaford teams descended on the Royal Oak, Barcombe to play against each other in round 3 of the competition.
Team A were however two players short due to illness and so it was agreed that Bill Pierce would become a member of team A, and the match would be 9 aside rather than the normal 10 a side.
Team A won the toss and Vice President Steven Willox started the match for Seaford A with a respectable 6, to which Tony Osborne opening for Seaford B replied scoring 8. President Mike Roper who was next for team B and who in the previous round had scored an impressive 15 however had a howler and failed to outscore any of his team.
Seaford A continued to score effectively and ran out winners of the first set by 59 – 50 with both John Preddy and Bill Pierce scoring 8.
Seaford A started the second set with the first three players scoring 29 including an impressive 12 from Ruth Willox and 9 from Steve Willox, whilst Seaford B managed a lowly 11 to give the A team a lead of 18 from which Seaford B never really recovered despite a match high individual score of 15 from Ken Holt. Any hope that Seaford B had of recovery was however dashed by Bill Pierce who demolished all 9 pins with his first ball and scored a notable 14 to enable Seaford A to consolidate their lead and win the second set 71 – 52 thereby taking a lead of 28 into the final set.
Ken Holt continued his fine form with a 9 in the third set and back up by John Lockyer and Paul Vaesen who each scored 8 this helped Seaford B to win the last set by 60 – 57 despite a 9 from Graham Phillips and a third 8 from Mister Consistency John Preddy for the A team.
Seaford A thus won the match 187 – 162 and will now progress to the quarter finals where they are due to play Horsham RC.
Ken Holt was the top scorer in the match with a top score of 31. Bill Pierce top scored for Team A with 29.
