Club Skittles Match

On the last day of November, 13 Rotarians, their partners and friends descended on the Royal Oak, Barcombe to play skittles – in preparation for the forthcoming District skittles competition and to have an enjoyable evening.
The alley had been decorated that afternoon and Seaford Rotary had the privilege of being the first group to use the skittle alley with the Christmas decorations in place.
The 22 players were divided into two teams lead by Vice President Steven Willox (team A - ) and President Mike Roper (team B + ).
Steve Willox commenced proceedings and scored a respectable 5, but was surpassed by Mike Roper who had all but one skittle down to score an 8. Team B were never headed after that in the first game with Paul Vaesen, Mike Logan and Rodney Reed matching Mike Roper’s score and only John Preddy being able to compete at that level for Team A - . Team B + won the first set by a clear twelve points scoring 67 – 55.
Steven Willox was determined that Team A – would recover from the opening loss and knocked over all the skittles with three balls for score a confident 9 to start the second set. Mike Roper could however only reply with a 5 and in reverse of the first game Team A – maintained the lead to win the second set by 6 scoring 65 59.
Both teams upped their efforts for the final set with Mike Roper getting Team B + off to a flying start by knocking all the pins down with his first ball. The skittles were reset and a further 5 knocked down to give an opening score of 14. Team A – however fought back and after 3 ends lead by 2 points. The score seesawed but Team A – held on to win the set by a single point 76 – 75. Both Tony Osborne and Mike Logan scored 9 in this high scoring set.
Thus, Team A – won the match by 2 sets to one, or alternatively Team B + won the match with an aggregate score 201 – 196.
Notwithstanding who won, all agreed it was an enjoyable evening and good practice for the District competition next year.
